Recognizing that the most influential person to a 17-year-old is another 17-year-old, Peer Forward unleashes teams of influential high school students to perform three powerful tasks for their schools:
- Run school-wide peer-to-peer campaigns to increase college application submissions during Michigan College Month, increase FAFSA completion, and increase their peers' understanding of how to plan for college and career.
- Train students and faculty in the latest college access and success technology apps like College App Map.
- Provide arms and legs for the college counseling staff. In each school, an 8-10 student corps helps counselors extend their impact to reach all students.
During the 2017-18 school year, Ypsilanti Community High School will be hosting its third Peer Forward team!
Last summer from June 29-July 3, 2016, four YCHS captains and one counselor traveled to the the University of Maryland - Baltimore County for Leadership and College Access Training with other Peer Forward teams from around the county:
If your school is interested in participating in Peer Forward, please contact our Coordinator.
Peer Forward was made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation's Youth Council.
Peer Forward is a program of College Summit, and builds on 20 years of award-wining experience helping schools in low/middle-income communities raise their college-going and persistence rates.
